Issue Spotlight - Official comic strip!

The first issue of Torchwood magazine features the first ever official Torchwood comic strip, written by Transformers legends Simon Furman, and drawn by SL Gallant (Marvel Adventures). Over the coming months the magazine will feature brand new adventures by a host of comics talent, including Ian Edgington (Scarlet Traces, 2000AD) and Brian Williamson (Doctor Who).

Features
O Captain, my Captain

Our coverage of the spectacular series opener Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang kicks off with an on-set interview with Captains Jack and John. John Barrowman and James Marsters take time out from shooting on a Cardiff rooftop to talk to the official magazine about the Torchwood experience. Plus, Chris Chibnall (writer), Ashley Way (director), Tom Lucy (stunt coordinator), Ray Holman (costume designer), and Marie Jones (from visual effects company The Mill) are on hand to talk series two and reveal behind-the-scenes secrets.

Grand Designs

Central to the look and feel of Torchwood, the imposing Hub is the work of production designers Edward Thomas and Julian Luxton. In this detail-packed first issue, Julian guides us through the elements that make up the set, while Edward reveals the inspirations for the Hub: "Russell was very non-specific about the Hub in the first script. That's great for us, because it means he trusts us to get it right, but we didn't know whether it should be a factory unit, a bunker, or what. We just knew it needed to be beautiful and sexy.”

Creature Feature

The journey from scripted creature to on-screen feature is a fascinating and complex one. Torchwood magazine goes behind the scenes with Rob Mayor from Millennium FX, the company responsible for all prosthetics seen in the show, for a close look at the development of the creature seen in the new series opener. We track the journey every step of the way, starting with Russell T Davies’ brief and the initial conception of the creature in the episode one ‘tone meeting’, and ending with actor Paul Kasey’s total metamorphosis!
